Looking for motivation

motivationI am working on a presentation on passion and motivation for next week. I was kind of reaching for ideas when an old friend reached out to me for some words of encouragement on how to get started ¬†back with her exercise plan. She had a goal of running a half marathon. She completed but can’t find it in herself to get started again. Here is what I wrote to her. Maybe it will help you.

It sounds to me that you need a new goal. However, it can’t be something arbitrary or obsolete. You just need to find something that means a lot to you. It could be a dress. It could be looking great for an event. Or it could just something you’ve always wanted to do.

The key steps are to first write it down in detail. Answer the question “What do I really, really, really want?” and then find the vehicle to get there.

Next, write down your start date. Put it in your organizer/scheduler¬† (If you don’t have one now is the time to get one. Leave yourself some lead ( a few days) to do some investigative work. Are you going to hire someone to assist you? Are you going to take a class? Do you need to find a book to help you? What ever resource works for you find it.

Next and most importantly, when your start date arrive… get started. Don’t let any excuse, scheduling or distractions stop you. Nothing happens without action. OK I am off my soap box. I hope this helps.
